As You Like It - Made me laugh...

Did you know that "All the world's a stage" line came from As You Like It? I didn't. I got one of those Fear Not Shakespeare books. I'm only on Act 3 but had to share this.

Rosilind has found a bunch of love poems dedicated to her that Orlando has left all over the forest. The poetry sucks a bit and Touchstone is mocking it and her saying the kind of rhymes Orlando's made are really simple and he could do that just as easy. To demonstrate he recites:

If a hart do lack a hind,
Let him seek out Rosalind.
If the cat will after kind,
So, be sure, will Rosalind.
Winter garments must be lined,
So must slender Rosalind,
They that reap must sheaf and bind,
Then to cart with Rosalind.
Sweetest nut hath sourest rind;
Such a nut is Rosalind.
He that sweetest rose will find
Must find love's prick, and Rosalind.

LOL!! I made freemonkeys listen to it then decided to post it to LJ. The book I'm reading has notes explaining some of it, making it worse even than I had understood...

If there's a buck who needs a doe, Tell him Rosalind will do. A cat in heat will look for a mate, And Rosalind certainly will too. Winter garments need to be filled with something, And so does skinny Rosalind....
