Every year for lack of a good resolution list (eat better, exercise more, phooey) I say I will read 50 books. Mostly because I don't think I read enough. Honestly, my bookshelves are crazy overflowing, I keep buying more, and people are always lending me books they just know that I will like, yet instead of reading I play on Facebook and watch TV. Basically, I suck. (It started when working on my Masters degree - I never had time to read for fun and then when I finished the degree I started doing other things.)

50 books. I actually made it last year - only it was mostly cozies (easy to read mysteries), children's books, and the Bible by counting individual books as opposed to the entire Bible. They are called BOOKS of the Bible. It counts.

So this year I'm trying not to count picture books or the Bible, and I just finished book #32. It's only August; this may be a good sign! Most of them are still mysteries, because my mom keeps lending/buying them - she probably reads six or seven cozies a week now that she has a library card. Every three mysteries I make myself branch out, mostly with nonfiction although I just finished Good Omens.

Tonight I started Christopher Moore's Fool. Not sure yet. I'm kind of a prude, and this book has already exceeded my seamen count. (Sadly, I don't know how to spell that and don't want to google it.) But it's King Lear Fan Fiction, so I really want to like it. Thinking positively, after that my lineup is Alice in Wonderland and Philosophy then The Case of the Missing Servant (yes, a mystery) then Jonathan Strange. Anyway - 18 books in about 18 weeks - that should be doable.

And technically I read three caldecott award winners just last week while picking out birthday presents for friends' children and have nearly finished the Old Testament, so going on those I'm well over 50. Score.

/boring post blah blah blah

Anyway - look at the supercool icon of Alan Davies as Jonathan Creek looking at some book or another. I have just become addicted to Jonathan Creek and in the past few days we've watched five episodes (I ordered the first three seasons). Also, we've been watching marathons of QI. I love seeing Davies as intelligent Jonathan Creek juxtaposed with Davies as the hilariously baffled but affable sidekick on QI. Makes me happy. But all that TV has really cut into my reading time.

The official title is Education Leadership ETMS (It's been a while, but I think ETMS stands for Education, Training, and Management Science). Really it's in distance education - as in designing web-based instruction, CD Rom based instruction, etc. - for schools, colleges, companies, or the military. I really enjoyed doing it - but I'm not particularly using it. It did allow me to teach College Success for the college. :)

Anyway - pretty crazy I have a technology degree, huh? Ha!
