Not quite New Years Resolutions

Okay, so Magnet posted about the 101 in 1001 as opposed to resolutions - that's gotten me thinking what would go on my list. I don't have 101 yet and I still seem to be thinking do this in one year, not 1001 days, but it's a start.

1) Read 50 books (my standard New Year's Resolution)
2) 2 of the 50 be classics (fancy dancy literature hoo-ha)
3) 2 of the 50 be non fiction (because the majority of my 50 from last year were mysteries & kids books)
4) 2 of the 50 be spiritual
5) 2 of the 50 be educational
6) 2 of the 50 be older books from my bookshelf, darn it.
This means I can fill the rest of the slots with mysteries and kids books. Ha!
7) Read at least one chapter of the Bible at least 6 days a week (this I already do, so that's maintaining)
8) Take a spring class
9) Take a fall class
10) Make a LJ post at least once a week.
11) Paint or draw ??? pictures <-- Mom and I keep talking about this - but how many??
12) Write one poem (low goal, but at least I'm more likely to meet it)
13) Send off the summer school poem to UWF to see if it can be published like my creative writing teacher keeps telling me to do
14) Put my Dragoncon artwork in frames and hang them DARN IT - especially the four Alice ones
15) Put three real pictures in frames and display them
16) Watch 3 movies from our shelf that we haven't seen yet.
17) Go to the eye doctors
18) Go to a real doctor
19) Lift weights three times a week
20) Maintain my bike/walk/exercise - five days a week or more
21) Get a passport
22) Make one Alabama trip to visit my cousins (at least)
23) Make one Kady Tallahassee trip (at least)
24) Make one nonKady Tallahassee trip (at least)
25) Make one trip to a new place (Alaska is the goal this year)
26) Purge my closet/donate to Goodwill
27) Donate blood up to the point I get my tattoo
28) Get my tattoo I've been talking about for years now
29) (with Monkeys) finish putting the trim up around the doors
30) (with Monkeys) put up crown molding in our bedroom
31) (with Monkeys) replace our dishwasher
32) Write a bucket list - England, hot air balloon
33) Practice musical instruments more! I need to more clearly define this goal.
34) Memorize the Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel
35) Memorize the Act of Contrition
36) Compost !!
37) Throw a tea party and play croquet! There will be hats.
38) Write a will.
39) Write real letters - need to more clearly define this goal as to how many letters and to whom.
40) Learn to do a real hand stand.
41) Learn to do a cartwheel <-- this actually scares me at my age.
42) (with Monkeys) Do the wood finish thingy in the guest bathroom
43) (with Monkeys) Touch up the paint in the Alice room where the instruments used to be
44) (with Monkeys) Repair my failed attempt to patch the wall in our bathroom.
45) (with Monkeys) Put up trim around the floor of our bathroom and repair that one wall issue
46) Look into our current car insurance (our agent retired and we have a new one)
47) Look into our current house insurance (after thinking our shower was leaking and being so relieved that it was just a bizarre shaving can wheeze it made me wonder about our coverage as we've remodeled since we first got it)
48) Sign up to be on the food committee thingy at the church to bring food when a family member passes away
49) Locks of Love donation.
50) Review the German books S2K gave me more often - I started out being really good, but when work got busy I slowed down. So I need to more clearly define how often.
51) Learn another Photoshop skill./Make another icon post to my iCaniWilliCon journal.
52) Look up words I don't know instead of guessing from context. (This is mostly an issue when I don't have a computer handy. I guess I need to keep pen/paper with me as I read to make notes.)

Half way there. Going beyond one year I would possibly add visit Europe, add on to the house, and other more elaborate items, so I hope I can get my mind out of the one year and into the three year mindset. Also, Monkeys and I want to do a realistic walk through of our house to get some stuff done - like get a water pressure thingy to clean the outside of the house, touch up paint, or whatever - so really there are lots of house things that could go on my list. Also, the Locks of Love donation may be over a year if my hair hasn't grown out enough by December!! I ought to copy Magnet and add practice changing a tire and learning first aid. I've been wanting to learn first aid for a while now, but the college only offers it during the day time.

It's 5 days into 2011, and I have made a start on this list. Monkeys and I are enrolled in a Theatre Appreciation class - so I am in a Spring course. We will be watching Pan's Labyrinth as a part of the class, which would take care of one movie from our shelf. I've read two books so far this year. (One mystery and one nonfiction book on logic taught via Alice in Wonderland - so that's one of my two "educational" books. I'm also halfway done with an AJ Jacobs book that's "nonfiction".) I've done three crayon pastels to attempt to be more artistic, hence my not knowing how many pictures to specify as a goal. If I say three, than I've already accomplished it...

I remember one summer many years ago writing out a schedule of what I intended to do to improve myself. I had all sorts of things blocked out - time to practice my guitar, time to exercise, etc. I showed it to Toaster at the Eglin campus where she was night monitor. She looked at my carefully detailed time blocks and said something like, "Do you want to know my plans for the summer?" Then she took a blank piece of paper and drew a grid like mine (Monday/Tuesday/Wed etc. across the top and hours going down the side) and in each block wrote "Wing it." She accomplished her goals. I failed to live up to mine. :D

one nonfiction book down :)
also, I read the Prayer to St. Michael and Act of Contrition today & told Toaster about this goal, so perhaps that's a step toward it.

I am considering adding reviewing constellations/getting better about star gazing and adding reviewing ASL/getting braver about talking to David @ work

I've read five books so far, one an education book (on logic in Wonderland) and one a nonfictoin book (AJ Jacobs I'd consider a biography of sorts).

I put my St Micheal card in my purse in the hopes of reading it every day. I read it off of Wikipedia today instead. I've kept up reading my Bible daily.

I rode exercise bicycle or walked or both these past few days and did a few arm exercises (w/o weights) while riding the bike.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Re: 1/11/11
Saw Pan's Labyrinth last night and The Secret of the Kells tonight - so that's two of the movies off our shelf. :) One more and that admittedly low goal has been met. But that's already more than we did last year, I think, so I didn't realize we'd be set to meet it so quickly. That being said, watch me take eleven months to watch the third.

Re: 1/11/11
Bought frames for the wonderland pictures today!
Monkeys said he would make mats on Monday, so I seriously hope they will be hung by Tuesday. *fingers crossed*

Another book down. :) Another mystery, so I guess I need to tackle something nonfiction next. I ought to add finish JimTheLibrarian's book to the list.

One more book read (mystery) and one more movie watched - Adventures of Baron M.

Technically I can count Pan's Labyrinth now - I bought my own copy. But it wasn't on our shelf when I composed the list so I guess I shouldn't.

Huzzah - another book done and it's not a mystery AND it was off my bookcase, so one of those two down! Pirattitude! So You Wanna Be A Pirate? Here's How! Clearly it isn't a deep thought book, but it might come in handy for Pirate weekend at GARF. (By the Talk Like a Pirate Guys.) I actually do think some of the vocabulary will come in handy if I can hold on to it. I need to watch some Errol Flynn movies just before Pirate Weekend and reskim this book or their webpage. Sad. really.

I'm within four chapters of finishing the Chesteron book on St. Thomas - so I'll have a "real" book finished in about a month as my goal is one chapter a week for that one.

One spiritual book down! Woot!

And I'm three chapters away from finishing my THE2071 textbook, which I am counting as nonfiction.

Good list. I may put "travel to a new place" on the next list I make. It took me until late January to get my first list done, so don't be discouraged.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I had hoped I'd have more items added by now, but it's been really busy AND I've actually been working on some of the items in what free time I have had, so I'm not going to fuss at myself too much yet.

I want to add some more volunteer/good deed type items to the list. I know there are more house related items to go on there. :D

Woo Hoo! I made the list! :D

I almost never make any sort of resolutions or plans... when I do I never DO any of them!

However My standing plan is to finish more things!

I LOVE Pans Labyrinth. I'm not giving anything away, but when (toward the beginning) you see people being made to line up. CLOSE YOUR EYES!. I'm not kidding. It even shocked the hell out of me! The only thing I can say is, the spanish don't have issues showing things we probably wouldn't.

THANK YOU for the Pan's Labyrinth warning! Magnet gave me a similar "there will be eyes" warning, but couldn't remember where in the movie - so I was going to ask the instructor about it. I didn't like the idea of freaking out in front of the class. :D :D :D

LOL! Yes! AK is totally on the list. We are looking at June, but we haven't done any real planning yet except for talking about what to pack and the idea of mailing stuff up (which I referenced on Facebook). Oh -and I've been psyching myself up for the TSA thing, ha! We need to talk to you guys about what time is good for you, too.

I don't generally make New Years Resolutions except for the read 50 books things (which I never meet unless I count kids books!) - but I liked Magnet's 101 in 1001 idea and a lot of the items aren't so much resolutions as things I've been needing to do for a long time but putting off for one reason or another (like going to the doctor!! or getting a passport) so I'm hoping maybe it'll force my hand into doing things I ought to have done a long time ago.

I really do want to ride in a Hot Air Balloon. I want to put that on my list, but I'm not sure I will ever actually do it. :)

I'm warning you about something.... violent. I know you won't want to see it. There ARE eyes, but I'm not sure wether they will bother you are not. No one's poking them or anything like that.

June sounds like a good month. I don't think we have anything going on and it should be nice by then.

I want to do a hot air ballon ride too!
