Holy Lack of Copyright, Batman!!

Check it out!

One of the pictures Adam West is selling on his website was designed by Monkeys. Monkeys made it for a friend to get autographed at Dragoncon and made an extra copy for Adam West. I'm not sure why Monkeys was monkeying around on Adam West's site yesterday, but he was and discovered that Mr. West is now selling that picture for $35 a pop!! LOL!!! Monkeys called me all excited about it. Then he added in a slightly less excited voice, "I need to start putting my name on things." hhahahahaha!!

My husband's creative genius at work now called New Color Batman Brian

How insanely cool is that?? What an honor. :)

Read Raven's post! They plot thickens a bit! There's a chance Monkeys will get his name mentioned in the picture's descriptoin. We'll see. :D

I don't know the source of the actual picture, but I got the icon from a journal called bisty_icons. She makes COOL icons. :D

She's made a bunch of batgirl icons:

She credits thusly - "Images were found @ flickr, via a search for 'batgirl' images. Also, please don't forget to credit artists where noted in filenames, specifically icon #005 (kittyvane) and #009 (artwork © Ai & Dax). THANK YOU. ♥"

Is it actually his drawing or just the same idea?

Copyright is fairly automatic. You don't have to add a notice or label.

It's the same drawing. He did a design combining Adam West's character from Family Guy dressed as Batman and the dog from Family Guy (I don't watch the show) dressed as Robin so that our friend, who's a fan of both characters, could get one autograph from Mr. West representing both fandoms. Raven was going to design it a crossover picture for himself, but ran out of time, so he asked Monkeys to do it. Anyway, when Raven got the autograph he gave Mr. West a copy of the image along with Monkey's name - but apparently Mr. West didn't keep track. Raven wrote to the people who did the webpage, and they've already written back saying they could give Monkeys credit for the image, but they want to verify he was the artist. Apprently they had no idea who designed it and assumed it was an animator from the show. (Raven posted the email to my post.) Monkeys never signed the original piece because he never expected it to be anything other than an autograph for Raven, so I'm not sure that it can be proved, but we'll see - can't hurt to try!

i wrote the website and told them the origin of the picture, and who created it, and WHY it was created, this was the freaking response i got:

"Hi Imran,
I was not aware of the origin of this item. So this was not drawn by the Family Guy animators? Or did your friend work on the show? In any case, it's no problem to give him credit in the description of the item. What is your friend's name? Is there some way to verify that he was the artist?"

my thing is, if we had tried to sell this online, someone would've made a fuss over copyright over it, and we would've had to take this down, however this person or this store gets it and sells it without knowing where it came from or who actually did it?

all i want them to do is give your husband credit for the work he did, so i dug out a pic where adam west is signing the damn thing and i asked your husband to send me the illustrator file so i can send it to these damn people and have them add the creators name next to it.

not blaming this on adam west, but if someone had done fanart like this for me, i'd make sure to not only give them credit but also a cut of whatever sales i made, especially since i had mr batwest write down the name of the person who drew the damn pic.

sorry, don't mean so sound so fussy, i'm just really big on giving credit where it's deserved, and your man def deserves the credit for this one (although i really wish i hadn't run out of time that year and done it myself so i could be famous now - but he did 100% what i had in mind and it was just perfect execution on his part, he's awesome like that :D hehe)

Wow - I wonder if it can be proved enough for them? Monkeys never signed it. I totally agree that credit should go with the artist (especially when it's one of us! LOL!) but I'm also still honored they liked it enough to think one of the show animators did it. Anyway, I'm glad you had the picture of him signing it and thankful for your writing to them. Monkeys said he'd be sending you the file. :D

PS Monkeys told me about your phone call earlier tonight - FINGERS CROSSED!!!! LOVE YOU!!!
