I walk during my lunch hour, and no matter how much I bundle up lately I can’t keep out the cold. My layers of coats keep my torso fairly warm, my knee high socks and boots under my pant legs keep my calves and feet warm enough (plus lately I’ve been packing legwarmers), and my fingertipless gloves at least keep my fingers moving enough to work my iPod so long as I keep them both in my pocket. My thighs, however, freeze. I was complaining about this to Toaster one night before mass and discovered she had similar issues, leading me to believe that this is not an uncommon problem.

Well – I’m working on a solution. I was brainstorming with Toast, who may or may not want shared credit for this idea. She’s mostly innocent in all this. I want to make legwarmers specifically for the thigh region. I’m thinking corduroy because the friction and possible sparks generated from one’s legs rubbing together may cause additional warmth. Toaster made some comment about the noise that might generate, so I’ve decided to add jingle bells to the thighwarmers. I think the sound will be distracting, plus who doesn’t like jinglebells. Brightly colored, corduroy, jinglebell thigh warmers!! (Toaster – was there anything else we decided to put in there??)

So lastly, I decided we need a catchy name for marketing purposes. In light of how successful the Snuggie campaign has been in turning a simple blanket with sleeves that makes the wearer look like a freakish cult member into one of the most desired Christmas present wishlist items of 2009 I’ve selected “Thuggie” It’s like a snuggy for your thigh.

What do you think, sirs?

Seriously, what I want is a calf length coat that fastens down to below the knees. My thighs and knees are frozen.

I sit with my back to an uninsulated window at work, northern exposure, with a small blanket over my legs; tomorrow, I'm giving up and taking the electric heating pad with me. I look like an old lady at my desk with a shawl wrapped around, and I am normally hot-natured.

Oooh, an electric heating pad sounds like a great idea. I have not yet gotten to the point where I have a blanket around my legs in the office, but I have wrapped my jacket around my legs before. Today I wore a longer coat - it came down to thigh - but it didn't help. :( Then again it didn't button all the way down and it didn't go to my calves. I think we both need coats like you described.

I have heard that we will be getting a warming streak soon. I hope it's true!

My friend sent me this link http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/650538.html

I don't know if it gets cold enough and stays cold long enough for me to invest in it, but it's tempting.

Hehehe. "Thuggies."
...and there was much giggling....

But I think you got it all, courduroy, jinglebell, thigh warmers. I believe your quote was "Available in all designer colors!"

Our catchphrase could be-
"Attack thigh coldness with Thuggies!!"
Jan. 12th, 2010 02:52 am (UTC)

you really could have a career in advertising.
Jan. 12th, 2010 03:34 am (UTC)
And your ad poster could be a Thuggee strangling jack Frost.
Jan. 12th, 2010 03:53 am (UTC)

Look to the North
Like many things cold, when dealing with weather train your eyes up this way.

May I introduce insulated skirts!

Re: Look to the North
Okay - those are brilliant. Much better than my Thuggies idea, actually. I'm afraid my Thuggies will slip down.

I wish they had more pictures on the site. I'm going to have to search out more pictures. :D

Re: Look to the North
They are very... interesting. I've been told they are actually very warm....

Oh, and honey.... that's why they made long johns. :D

Re: Look to the North
Long Johns are hard to wear under jeans. Well, at least I have trouble with them. Maybe I wear my jeans too tight! LOL!

Re: Look to the North
I can promise you that if you ARE wearing your pants to tight non of the men you know are gonna tell you. :D

I would totally make you thigh warmers. :D

::giggles:: Yep! You might need suspenders or garters or something, if you're wearing them out and about, but they sound like they could be quite useful. That's one of the reasons I don't like going out of the house in winter -- I can't take my lapwarmer with me (she'd shed everywhere and freak out at seeing strangers, and I somehow doubt the white noise/vibrating function would work as well if she were distressed).

LOL what a great idea.

We can do a kitty print thuggie just for you!
