Thought It Cool So I'm Sharing

Continuing my theme of doing good for others with the least amount of effort by me (giving blood/donating hair/etc) ...

My friend told me SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Inetelligence) lets you help them by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data. The program runs as a screensaver so that during your computer's idle time it's helping with their research. (The screensaver is rather neat looking, too.) Cool thing is, if they find what they are looking for in the data processed on your computer you get your name in the history books as part of the discovery. I was a little nervous about the idea of someone else using my computer but my freind who told me about it knows way more about computers than I do and is WAY more paranoid than I am so if he's doing it I trust it. Plus, you can set it to automatically connect to the internet for new packets or you can manually decide to return completed packets/pick up new ones which gives you some control. Not to mention the fact I've heard of SETI and Berkeley and the site seems genuine. They also have one to help with Climate Change/Prediction and with the search for neutron stars. It you are interested, too, here's the link :)
