I'm up to issue 512 of Order of the Stick - Yay! I am so in love with Elan. I want desperately to play Quest or DnD or something so that I can be a bard. Despite all my OOTS reading today I have still have managed to do three loads of laundry, wash some dishes, pay bills, clean the master bathroom, practice tap, and get some stuff up in the attic. All and all, not too bad. Of course, my to do list was a lot longer, so I shouldn't be too pleased with myself. I still have to read chapter two and do the homework, do some grocery shopping, catch up on emails, and loads more housework.

Instead, I will babble a wee bit about Mom's birthday. She was hugged on behalf of all who emailed birthday wishes. :) I'm so excited about how much Mom loved her birthday present. I'm slowly getting her the entire set of Midsommer Murders. Well, I also got her some old Ms Marple movies. She was quite surprised. :) My dad is a big fan of the Midsommer Murders, as well. Normally I get him books, but his face lit up as much as mom's when she opened her presents, so I'm thinking I might switch to the shows for him, too. That way, it's kind of like getting presents for *both* of them all at once. Anyway, we haven't watched the Marples, but we have watched a bunch of the Midsommers, and with each episode I'm more impressed with the series. Monkeys likes it, too, so that's really nice. All four of us can watch them together. Oh, and we also got to call my grandmother, who has the same birthday as Mom. Gram turned 90, so she was getting LOADS of phone calls that night. She said she was stunned by how many bouquets and cards and calls she was getting. Really, she should have been stunned by our off-key singing. It was awful. OH - but later Monkeys and I played uke/mando for Mom. Thankfully we were on key for that.

There's a commercial on tv for the movie Confessions of a Shop-a-holic. I don't know what they movie will be like, but the book is actually quite funny. I laughed out loud (and quite loudly) on multiple occasions. I believe I even forced someone to listen to me read a few portions of the book that particularly amused and forced at least two other people to borrow the first book. There are maybe four books in the series? I don't know. I have read three, so I know there are at least three. The Manhattan one was hysterical, too, but I don't remember the third. Anyway, didn't mean to write about that - I was intending to get back to work, but the commercial distracted me. (Confession of a LJ-a-holic)

I'm a turbo-powered lemming
After your last post on it, I went and started OOTS.

I'm current, and looking to find the two print-only books, On the Origin of PCs(about how Roy, Elan, Durkon, V, Haley, and Belkar got together) and Start of Darkness(the backstory for Xykon and Redcloak and the Monster in the Darkness).

I'm kinda in love with Haley, and I feel a special and very weird kinship for V. S/he reminds me waaaay too much of myself.

He's my second favorite character, actually. (Which scares me a little.)

I'm up to 532 now. Had to take a break to read chapter 2 and do the homework. Ack.
Now I'm going to bed. :)

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuum, I'm on number 598 and V is getting a little scary...

EDIT - and I just read 623.
Now I am sad. V's starting to remind me of me now, too.

I was feeling kinda dubious about V. too, up until 623 came up in front of me Friday morning. Now I'm more sanguine about it, and feeling much more for him/her.

And yes, s/he is hella scary, though also sympathetic.

What do you think the four words are gonna be, and who s/he's gonna say them to?

Four Words in a Teacup
I have no idea! With this series the four words could just as easily be "Hey! Blah blah blah" as "I like big words" as something so truly brilliant and awe inspiringly clever that I could never conceive of them myself and dare not try.

Although, how on earth V could ever restrict hemself to just four words... well, that part I don't know. Oh, I invented a word, by the way. Hemself is the word for herself/himself when gender is unknown. I hope I'm the first to think of it, because I'm actually rather proud of it.

Would that they sold those umbrellas. We would so have one.

I always thought that'd be a kick ass dragon con costume. All it'd take would be an umbrella and some black fabric with some yellow eyes painted on.

I have never played a bard before! Advice or suggestions are appreciated. :) Especially as I'm terrible at role playing. I've really only played D&D three times (and never finished a campaign!) though I did play a lot of Quest. Quest is a simplified version of D&D - more of a gateway RPG. You are right about it taking a lot of time to play. We've tried a few times to get one started, but never managed to get a schedule everyone could work with.

When I tried D&D I stuck with clerics because they are more like me in real life so that I didn't have to do much acting. They tend to stay in the back instead of leaping into the action because they have the healing power and need to stay safe so that they can heal the others who *do* leap into the action. Plus, their abilities come from intelligence and wisdom as opposed to Bard's abilities coming more from charisma. While I do play instruments, I don't really have the natural bluff, charm, banter skills a bard would have, so I expect I would make a terrible bard! But Elan is not very bright. He's kind of bad at being a bard and tends to be as much of a hindrance as a help to his group - and I think I could do that!! It sounds rather fun. :) I don't know what I would say in less then six seconds to make someone switch from trying to kill me to wanting to help me, but I'm willing to be Elan and my success ratios in attempting that action would be about the same...

The Margaret Rutherford Miss Marples are a hoot, if those are the ones you meant.
