I can't wait! I decided to post pictures. Don't look at my face as I look terrible. So look just at the outfits, please. I do have a favorite. I have not seen a lot of Steampunk anime or movies or whatnot therefore I would like opinions.

Better One? (Or better two) Better One? (Or better two)
Pink shirt/Brown suit.
Pink Shirt Pink Shirt
Okay, I think this is right. The fabric looks old-fashioned to me with the little detail design thing. And it's got frills along the middle and sides and even the sleeves. The collar is high and buttons around the neck. I remember seeing collars like that in Victorian movies, right? Drawbacks - it's tighter than the other one. Advantages - I like how it looks w/o the coat so I could take the jacket off at any time. The color really seems to *pop* in photographs.
Better Two? (or better one) Better Two? (or better one)
White shirt/Brown suit.
White Shirt White Shirt
It is *really* shear. Okay, it's see through. But it has the frills and it has a bow that when tied properly (unlike what I did) looks a bit like a cravet. (However you spell that.) Drawbacks - in the picture you seem to lose the detail in the shirt. I don't feel as comfortable w/o the coat on because it's so see through. Advantages - it would be cooler and white is easier to match other stuff, right?

Remember how hot it is in September!
The sheer cravat-like shirt is nice, but you'd best wear something nice underneath it or Captain Drew (and a thousand other mouth-breathing conventioneers) will annoy you with gawping.

Thanks!! LOL - my biggest fear with the sheer shirt. Well, screaming from terror would be a bigger fear...

I am worried about the heat. It's even warm in the hotels when there are loads of people around. So being able to take off the jacket is a good thing.

I have no idea really what I'm doing with Steampunk, but Toaster made a great suggestion that If I can modify my Doctor Who outfit into pulling double duty for Steampunk then that's one less outfit to pack.

I know the jacket will be hot, but I'm so excited about getting to dress like the Doctor that I think it's worth it. My friends even bought me psychic paper and a sonic screwdriver.

Me as Tennent (again with the stupid hair in my eyes):
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

So I have to find a way to make the suit work for Steampunk :)

I like the pink. It is a nice contrast and it accentuates your positives :)

Yay! The pink is my favorite, too. But I wanted other opinions as sometimes I have terrible taste.

Hey, did you say you were interested in a ride to DC? I have a coworker who lives in Navarre that is riding up by himself. I can give you his email address if you wanted to see if there were some mutually beneficial arrangement for riding up. If we weren't full in our vehicle, we'd take you. :(

ARGH - forget the Dragoncon comment. Your icon is the default for someone else. Since it's the ONLY one he uses, I think of him the minute I see it. I didn't look at the username.

You know who I'm talking about. His sister was in your improv group and was at your wedding shower :) :) :)

Better one.
Show us a picture of what it looks like with the pink shirt tucked into the pinstriped trousers, though, plis?

-M, hoping you are enjoying your sondheimery.

Re: Better one.
Gypsy was AMAZING! The actress playing her mom has one of the best voices I've ever ever ever heard. I didn't like the actual ending of the story (though it's based on a true story, yes? So they had no choice, no?) but the performances were all outstanding.

Tomorrow night I can show in person? It never occurred to me to tuck it in. I don't think I've tucked in a shirt in years. That makes me nervous!

Hmmm... I dunno which one I like more. I'll have to see them in person. The pics on my computer are really low res and don't show their true glory.

=o) Is there going to be movie night tomorrow? Maybe I could see them then....

Heck yeah movie night!!
We didn't really discuss it over the week, so no official dinner plans were made or anything. But we can have people meet at our house around 6 and go from there. Or people can call with suggestions and get some kind of phone chain started. You can give a call after mass? Or have you a better idea? It's late and I'm tired so my brain's not fully functioning :)

Gypsy was AMAZING!

Cool. I'll see you tomorrow. I wish I had the cool belt that Jamie and I made yesterday so I could show you.... It ROCKS. It was going to be Jamie's belt, but she didn't want it in brown, so she recreated the entire thing out of black leather. She is amazing!!

I've ordered a waist cencher, and hopefully it'll be in soon, and my steampunk costume will be D-O-N-E. I can't wait to try it all together.

She is amazing. I'm still in awe of those eye patches. Can't wait to see the belt. And I can't wait to see the entire costume all together. (While I'm sober.) I was trying to describe the skirt puller upper things you guys made to my mom. I seriously think you could market them.

I left a one-eyed dinosaur on their porch today. I need to email her and make sure they got it. The other eye is in the bottom of the bag; I meant to reattach it. But as she is awesome and crafty and talented I have faith in her abilities to fix it. I justified my not doing it by thinking maybe she'd want to repaint it therefore she'd need the eye off anyway for painting...

oh yeah - remember the red bead/green bead magnet bracelets you gave me for Christmas one year? I wore the red ones tonight to the play. I started out with them as a necklace then at intermission switched them to a bracelet :)

Anyway - it's bedtime. hope you have a good night. see you tomorrow!

Come over at 6 works for me.

The pink shirt looked best.

Thanks for the free ticket last night! Yes, it was a true story, but no, I don't think she and mom ended up quite so happily in RL (Rose's words before dying were supposedly "Any time you get a kick in the ass, it's a gift from me.").

Oh, and Dr. Tran could perform the entire soundtrack of Gypsy single-handed!

I just looked her up on wikipedia (for a quick read - I'll sacrifice 100% accuracy for speed and general idea). They gave the same last words as you. Her mother was awful! It says that she attempted to shoot the boy June ran off with but the safety was still on, so he was spared. Then she also shot and killed someone at her boarding house; however, it's on the records as a suicide. I get so mad at people who do that to their own children. It's bad enough to do it to strangers, but to treat your own children that was is beyond the pale.

FORGOT TO MENTION - they had a picture of Gypsy Rose Lee from the movie Stage Door Canteen. Based on that picture, they did a great job of casting at the college play. She looked a lot like Ms Gypsy :)

Thanks for the vote! I'm glad people seem to prefer the pink. :)

I think I like the pink best. The color is a nice contrast with the suit and I think it will stand out better.

Jul. 12th, 2008 06:18 pm (UTC)
That's what I was thinking :)
I'm really glad for the confirmation as I don't totally trust myself. :)
Jul. 12th, 2008 03:57 pm (UTC)
I think the pink will add the "punk" to the outfit. :)

Also, have you tried doing something with your hair? Like a tight, slicked back pony tail or a funky twist or something...? Experiment, woman! :) Go all out!
Jul. 13th, 2008 01:48 am (UTC)
I like your hair.... and the pink. I wish my steampunk-ary was something more than a couple piles of fabric. Sigh
