Pottery! Raku & High Fire :)

I'm artistic!

First of all, check out disbandedtoastr's journal and see my terrible drawings of GARF performers and DragonCon. ;) I have some GOOD drawings Toast did of the trip and when I get my scanner hooked up again I will get those posted. They are pretty funny plus she's actually talented. And Redd is extremely artistic as well - you should check out her etsy site - am I allowed to promote it yet?!?!?

Meanwhile, we got back a bunch of pottery tonight! Yay!

I had been experimenting with leaves and with carving Celtic symbols. Tonight I got back my set of three Triqueta symbols and they turned out GREAT. But they are still in class so I can't take pictures. I also got back my second attempt at an incense burner which looks just like Celtic Pickle but it's high fire glazed instead of raku'd and it has a lip to it instead of being flat. Plus, I poured glass into the carving.

Raku'd Leaves Raku'd Leaves
I only like the top left one, the others I tried waxing the stems and i don't like that effect as much. I have decided that I am going to make more, using a different glaze and poking holes in the bottoms for easier affixing before I actually start wiring them to a branch. But that will be in the Fall, I guess, as I won't have access to more clay until then. So these will be on hold.
Celtic Bowl Celtic Bowl
This one cracked! The bottom is fine, it didn't crack all the way through. But the carving I did cracked in one place. The carved area is filled with green glass. Because of the crack it is no longer eat-out-able, darn it!
Celtic Bowl Bottom Up Celtic Bowl Bottom Up
Trying very hard to show the cool glaze. This is the Celtic Bowl again. I have the raku'd leaves in it and you can see my drinking cup on the left, a troll on the right, and Daryl's crotch in the middle there. My husband made a bobble-head Daryl doll and I should have moved it before taking the picture.
Raku'd Leaves Raku'd Leaves
Where did I get those leaves from? Obviously here! I tried making a cut out piece. I am extremely happy with the glaze coloring on this piece - the bottom inside is different from the outside, the outside turned a copper penny color. It also has a crack, though. But it's not like it could hold water anyway.
Back of the Raku Back of the Raku
See the cool copper color? I don't know what this can be used for - maybe a toilet paper holder if it were a small roll. Or an art piece for the back of the cabinet.

I certainly learned what I want to do NEXT time with those! I hate that I'm going to have to wait so long to make more.

Hey!!! If you get back on with the school and get free classes we need to get EVERYONE in pottery! You, me, Monkeys, Redd and maybe even Jase if he wants and is free!!! Droid, Raven and Libra also said they were interested. Could you imagine that class?!?!?

*snicker* The group will take over the class. Sounds like fun to me.

Wouldn't it be amazing? Can't just stop at one, either. I'd like to take some of the other art classes, too. Then again, I would take ANY class we offer. I have a very long list of ones I'm interested in...

But we should start with pottery!!!

Oh, I completely agree. The classes there all seem to be great choices. Of course, I'm a bit partial to the art classes. lol. The last time I took pottery it was being taught by a different instructor... so I'd be curious to see what the "new" one is like. I think you'd have a blast in the oil painting class.
