Do you watch Dexter??? Because they just did a scene where he and another cop were examining blood spatter on the wall at a murder scene AND discussing what they saw in the images. Dexter pointed out a lobster and his coworker asked what was with him always seeing crustaceans.

Oh, and that lobster - IT WAS THERE. You could totally see the claws.

In other news my back feels yucky and apologies for my sudden disappearance around 2/2:30 this morning. Sorry also if I got too quiet or seemed short with anyone or disinterested or as if I wasn't listening to what was being said. I was listening and I am interested and will be asking questions. I just couldn't follow well last night. Actually, I wasn't following much at all. SUCKZ! :( Sucks to get old. But I don't think it's old. I really do think it was from that car accident. Because there was NOTHING like that before. At least there's a warning build up so I know when it's going to happen. This makes either four or five times since November. It's shocking how much it can hurt and the major pain lasts for about an hour and I cry and feel like a total baby for whining so much. Then it drops down to just hurting for a day or so. I did NOTHING today except lie on the couch reading Wodehouse and eating ice cream sundaes and doritos. That's not good!! Apparently when I'm sick or not feeling well I reduce to comfort foods. I'd better get better soon - I just gave away all my old clothes!!

AND I made some BNL icons the other day - saw a picture of Ed looking in a mirror and it made me feel all Jabberwockalicious...

I didn't notice anything, but I left about 2 and you were April as usual up until then. I'm sorry about your back! I wonder if it's a pinched nerve or something? Maybe you could go to a chriopractor? I think you should definitely see your doctor about it, and if he doesn't do anything, see a different doctor! Make sure to tell them about the jolt you got from the car accident though.

That sucks girl... you shouldn't be in pain like that. =o(
I sympathize with ya.

It got bad after most everyone left. so maybe it was 3 or 3:30 then. the warning was there all day and i did watch myself (did a lot of sitting working on your book while john did most of the cleaning). probably brought it on with several days of DDR and with all the moving/cleaning/standing on Thursday and walking around PC on Wednesday. So i had taken some Alieve on Saturday and kept it at bay for almost long enough. but Tickmosis&Hubby, Droid&brother, Raven&LLL had to hear me suddenly get whiney and disappear on them. :( It's so embarrassing.

Monkeys said the fact there was also burning in addition to regular pain was sign of a possible pinched nerve. I want to call my regular doctor and see him (despite the fact I'm sure he can do NOTHING for back pain) because that will be a little copay and to see if it's possible he can give me a referral to a chiropracter in the hopes insurance will pay for some. Otherwise Raven and LLL said that the guy they go to is not too expensive if you pay for six sessions up front (you get a discount). but i'll have to get an xray to go to him which creeps me out a little plus I don't know about cost of that. still, if the pain goes away it will be worth it.

it started with carrying boxes that one weekend then getting rearended the next weekend so i had two weekends of what i'm calling "mild trauma!" LOL! But i'm sure Dance Dance does not help. i need to exercise!! so i'm going to swtich to bike riding for this week until i get better. i love DDR and don't want to give it up completely unless i'm forced. grrrrrr. oh well.

Ok, first off you need to STOP apologizing for leaving early, regardless of the circumstances! Not to mention, you weren't feeling well, trust me we ALL understand. If one acts like a "total baby" cause of back pain, that's a common thing, I've seen the best of the best fall to the floor cause of back pain, and not to mention experienced it first hand.

What does concern me is that you've had it that frequently now in the past year and I would VERY much like you to see a chiropractor vs. a regular doctor. You can absolutely trust me on this, I've gone though all starting when I was 12.

I struggled with the damn pain for 10 years until I finally went and saw a chiropractor. After that, within a year, I finally began to feel "normal" again. It took a whole years worth of adjustments, but considering it was a 10 year build up, that wasn't too bad at all, not to mention no side effects like stupid medications would give you.

So PLEASE, if you can see a chiropractor and avoid a regular MD, I'd much rather you do that, cause the last thing I want to see it another family member fall victim to some high dose medication with major side effects and no real cure.

It's totally up to you, but if you need anything, we're here for you.

Hope you at least recovered some by today.

moving around much better today, thanks!! I felt like such a moran the other night - argh! so embarrassing. :(

you waited ten years, wow. :( back pain is so miserable - i can't believe you held out for so long.

i have to go through a regular doctor first (i think) to get them to cover a non-regluar doctor. i have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning (blech) and consulted my personnel office regarding chiropracters. our insurance will pay for it but Dr. P is not on our list :( So I'm going to talk to my regular doctor and find out if he knows how to get the referral to pay for a chiropracter and if he knows anyone on the list PLUS check with my coworkers to see if they've used any of the ones. If not I may still try to go to yours because I trust your opinions and depending on cost it may be worth it to pay out of pocket for someone I know. but i'd rather have extra money for Dragoncon if i can help it! i have priorities!!!

Honestly, you need to stop feeling bad about any of this. It's not like you had control over it or asked for it!

Yes, unfortunately I waited ten years not because I was willing to deal with the pain or didn't care for it, the choice wasn't mine to make thanks to MD's (Medical Dickheads!). My agonizing back pains began back in 1994 (when I was 12, the year you guys were graduating and grown ups!) and this was back in Germany! One would think that's a good thing, but it wasn't. I went to regular MD's and they kept thinking it was related to my kidneys and other problems. I was tested for a billion things and everything came back OKAY! Thus, they just told me to rest drink more milk. Right! That didn't help a damn bit (duh!). I started to adjust my own bones as I needed them adjusted (which is probably worse than not seeing a chiropractor to begin with), but being totally helpless and being told that it was just "in my head" I believed it and just dealt with thinking one day it'll be alright.

It wasn't until late 1999, when someone told me that he had thrown his back out once and the only thing that helped was a chiropractic adjustment. I began to research it some more (thanks to google I learned a lot), but living in Toronto it was difficult to find a GOOD chiropractor who actually know what he/she was doing. I heard more horror stories than anything else and once again, put it off.

Then once I moved here, sleeping on couches and crappy beds didn't help a damn thing and by 2004 I was getting to the point where I was starting to feel numbness in my fingers and it took me a good 2-3 hours every morning to get to the point where I could turn my neck all the way.

Late 2004 it had reached a point where I had to do something before it was too late. That's when someone suggested Dr. Payne and told us that he's flexible with payments, which was a MAJOR factor at the time since I was dead broke.

It took almost a year to recover from the 10+ years worth of damage I had let happen to my body, but nevertheless, Mr. PA!N fixed it. Now I'm at the point where I go every other week or sometimes only once a month (not due to lack of need, but due to lack of time).

It's just a maintenance thing, a lot like getting your car oil changed, you don't HAVE to get your oil changed, and at first that would be alright, but over time, it'll cause nothing but harm to the car.

So even though DragonCon is our yearly pilgrimage which we HAVE to attend, you should most definitely get healed first so you CAN! walk around DragonCon and enjoy our yearly spiritual rejuvenation. =)

Please don't let MD's give you drugs/narcotics or other crap that'll damage your body, just tell them you did your research and you want to see a chiropractor and if they say no, just tell them that you will hold two sonic screw drivers together and blast them in their faces!

That'll make em think twice!

Hugs!

I wasn't there, but I like totally forgive you and wish your pain could be magicked away. I'm glad you had my Wodehouse to help (Jeeves, I'm sure, has awesome treatments for back pain).

Hugs again.

But yes, if there's physical activity that's straining you, STOP. Trust me on this. Otherwise it'll hurt more. I know (not this specific sort of ache but others).

Jeeves would have had me totally cured by now... :)

He did keep me company while waiting in the Doctor's Office, though. I finished him then started a book on String Theory which so far chapter one reads like an infomercial promoting the theory. I don't trust overly gleeful people. But I'm only on chapter two (which is all Einstein's time & space in somewhat original anecdotes or analogies) so I'm expecting it to pick up when I get further into it and start hitting the more recent stuff. If nothing else I like his graphs for families of subatomic particles! That was actually really helpful. Of course, I'm operating at a pretty low level to start with :) He put all the math in the appendix - yay!

Anyway, how was Rent?!?!?

I'm supposed to be doing back exercises right now but I'm too tired.

Rent was fabulous.

You'd like my Hiding in the Mirror book--it's very informative and clear about string theory and other multidimensional theories, though the author sees huge problems with all of them.

ooooh - yes, Hiding in the Mirror sounds great! I checked the title on line and Krauss is my absolute favorite science authoer (yes, over simon singh). the wrote The Physics of Star Trek and Beyond Star Trek and my favorite science quote of all time which i'll try to find the link to in my live journal. That quote was actually partially the inspiration for my tattoo. I might just need to order it myself for my collection.

I bought The PHysics of Comic Books because he wrote the forward. I don't know why I don't own all of Krauss's stuff.

And from what little i do know about String theory, I have loads of problems with it. :)
But that's one of the reasons I want to read more about it.

You don't have anything to be apologizing about!!!! I was (and still am) more worried about you being in pain. Hurting like that is miserable especially when nothing helps ease the pain. I agree with Toastr and Raven on this one -- you should see someone about it so it can heal and stop hurting you.

Hope you're feeling better!!

bah! ...... quit that, will ya!

I'm a JERK to be around if I'm having back pains, so it's best if I leave.

For instance today, I did something while crawling under the house in school and my lower back popped out of place (I think).

After that I was NOT a nice person to be around!

Hope the regular doc. isn't a closed minded jerkbitch who will just x-ray your back for breaks and then give you some drug that will just mask the problem rather than heal it.

These sort of things really worry me, especially when my people are at risk.

Good luck tomorrow, and hope you recover soon (whichever way, just hope it's soon!)

ack! sorry for your back!!!! we'll be pain-buddies :(
are you feeling better? you are going in this thursday, right?
you were nice despite your pained ankle :)

my regular doc is pretty cool. he did a bunch of tests (walk on your tip toes, walk on your heels, bend at the waist, etc.) and prodded me quite a bit and did x-rays and went over them with me explaining what everything was in my back. apparently i have a pretty good back! he thinks it's muscle spasms because my mobility was good in all his tests. and he talked about how people's lives and jobs and hobbies today are bad for people's backs. he also explained the over the counter stuff i'd been taking when it did hurt and what they did (aspirn vs ibuprofins vs alieves oh my!). right now he gave me a prescription for anti-inflamatories to take for two weeks to get the inflamation down and muscle relaxents to use IF it happened again - not for every day use!!! - to be stronger than the over the counter stuff i'd been taken. but he stressed stretching and exercises to strengthen my upper back so that it shouldn't happen again. I have a sheet to follow (some of them I actually recognized from yoga) he also was really encouraging about my weight loss & exercise and said my doing yoga was excellent and to keep that up (even DDR after I felt better) so long as I stretched really good before hand.

so for now my plan is to see how i feel after two weeks and to be more diligent with my yoga (except tonight because i'm sleepy and it was a bad day) then after registration ends in mid-May when i have free time again i will look into a chiropracter if the exercises don't keep it at bay. that will give it a month and a half to see if it works. :)

and if it doesn't then hopefully the chiro can use the same set of xrays from today!
