Long Post About Life

  • Aug. 2nd, 2009 at 12:59 AM
sleepy sleepy sleepy LOVE DoubleD!
I have had an outstanding weekend so far!

First, I got to put my car in the shop to have the A/C finally fixed. Even though my warranty has finally expired, they still covered it since they ordered the part while it was under. (And probably because they were the ones who most likely broke it AND it took them two months to get back to me about the part. I think they forgot about me. I still adore them; they are lovely people.) While it was in, they also did an oil change and fixed my headlight. I dropped it off at 8 in the morning and got it back at 5 that evening. In the meantime, the plan was to hang out with my parents.

Plans change! Thursday night my cousin IM'd me saying she had to go to P'cola for work on Friday and could we meet for lunch. She lives in Tally, so I don't get to see her often. I was concerned about the timing, and I started babbling about cars and parents. She said "Well, my parents just got off the phone with your parents, and they are going to be visiting them tomorrow." I promptly called Mom to make sure they could still pick me up from the dealership, and we worked out modified plans for everyone (both sets of parents, me, Jay, Jay's kids) to meet up for lunch. It was a blast! I hung out all morning shopping with my moms, then we all met up in Destin for lunch followed by more window shopping. It was an awesome visit, loads of laughing and silliness. I was giving the kids horrible advice with a mostly straight face - after all, a godmother should look after their futures. We also had a bunch of crazy storms and awful traffic due to several (nonlethal) accidents, which caused additional hilarious conversations. I miss my family!

That evening we had dinner/movie plans with a friend. She brought along one of her friends who had driven up from South Florida and who turned out to be wicked funny. When I am more alert I should post more about her. Meanwhile I had sushi and got to watch Pass the Ammo & Saved.

Saturday I got to reunite with one of my best friends from high school. We reconnected thanks to Facebook, and I've been having a blast writing Shakespearean limericks and top ten lists with her. She carved out two hours of her time visiting relatives to have lunch with us at a local Greek restaurant. Again, there was tons of laughter and catching up and meeting the husbands and her adorable daughter.

After lunch, Monkeys and I went TV shopping. I think they guy we bought it from may actually outgeek Monkeys. Well, in some areas. We were there for maybe 2 hours, and only 30 minutes of it was spent buying the tv. The rest was a geekfest explosion. (In conversation we discovered he knew one of Monkey's fellow AF EOD guys.)

Tonight we have the Sat Night Gang over for Supernatural. We just finished watching four episodes. Now we are doing Garth M's Dark Place. So a perfect day!

Tomorrow my parents are coming up to watch that last Ms Marple again, because none of us had a clue about what was going on.

We have friends over and are watching Supernatural episode by episode. For me, it's a safety in numbers thing. I'm spending a lot of time not looking at the television. I have an eye phobia, so Bloody Mary was particularly scary. Right now - bugs. Eeeps!

This is a kind of neat overlap moment. Yesterday I dedicated a Rosary to Beth's mother at the hospital, my mother's safe traveling to AL, and John's mom's soul. It was Saturday so, I said the joyful mysteries (the annunciation of the birth of Jesus, the visitation of a pregnant Elizabeth by the pregnant Mary, the birth of Jesus, the presentation of Jesus at the Temple, and the finding of Jesus at the temple) which as you can see have a great focus on motherhood. I didn't think about that when I started, so it felt really right to have all the mother moments.

On a bad note, I didn't go to church today. I thought I was sick, but I think I probably could have made it, so I pretty much suck.

Monkeys and I are watching Eureka on Hulu; it's such a wonderful show. :) We also watched two awesome episodes of Bones - one with Stewy and one at a convention. I'm also cross stitching again, finally.
And I made two stupid icons. One is from scratch and the gears one is a logo I stole from some company.

Also, my husband looks a lot like Cardinal Fang. Plus, he has fangs. I swear. So I wanted an icon to use for him.

Frazzled and Starting to get Overwhelmed

  • Apr. 7th, 2009 at 10:20 PM
college - you could switch out learning
Today was sooooooooo busy. Yesterday and today I worked nonstop and there is *still* a huge pile of paperwork on my desk. Normally I get maybe five or six applications for the bachelors programs in a week and the rest of my job is grade changes and evaluating. I got about 20 applications yesterday and another 20 today. I've never seen so many at once before. And I'm running out of time to get this "normal job" stuff done, because the registration meeting is Friday and registration starts Monday The following Friday we're hosting a workshop for the region colleges and I'm helping with that, too. (Bad timing on that!) Graduation is less than a month away on top of everything else - so it will just get busier! Eeeps!

So with all the extra work on top of being sick with either a stubborn cold or a possible ear infection, I was very frazzled today. Yoga is normally a relief, but today our instructor tried something new that probably would have been fun any other day. I had already left late from my office, parked in the wrong parking lot, left something in my car so was running late anyway - so I just wanted to stretch and meditate. Instead, she gave out cards with yoga poses and decided we each should take turns leading the class. I was way too scatterbrained to help anyone else focus, so my tree posture instruction was a bit flakey. Oh - and with the ear infection a bit unbalanced, too! Despite that - it was actually kind of cute hearing how everyone else described their positions and how to get into it. I hope we do it again, because on a good day it would be really fun.

Tonight Monkeys taped Fringe so that I could watch the Mentalist. (TV to lose myself in...) Except something went wrong so we watched the first 45 minutes of Fringe only to discover he didn't get the ending. LOL! We were just sitting there. It stopped just when she got whatever clue she needed to catch the bad guy, so we have no idea how she gets him or what will happen to the subterranian (sp) kid. We tried Hulu, but tonight's episode wasn't up yet. I guess I'll try to read it tomorrow on TWOP or something. Oh - but I had to shower with lots of lights on and the tv really loud because I was afraid of a bald kid with scary blue eyes suddenly jumping out at me.

I have babbled enough! I'm going to bed. Sleepy sleepy sleepy. New and busy day tomorrow. At least the time goes quickly and I am not as tempted to snack! I just wish I didn't want to Vincent Van Gogh my stupid ear. :(

We have way too many passwords now-a-days. I've been on my computer while watching tv to do taxes, pay bills, check my email, check LJ and FB, and check to see if my class has posted grades yet and now my brain is worn out from remembering which PIN is which.

On the bright side, there is an adorable orange kitty that keeps peeping through the French doors. She keeps eye contact and looks super friendly. I want to pet her, but I know Cassie will *freak* if we let her in.

And other thing that's making me giggle - if any of you are watching the show Medium, they keep playing music that sounds just like romantic Star Trek music. Oh, and James Urbaniak from Venture Brothers was on it tonight.

I'm up to issue 512 of Order of the Stick - Yay! I am so in love with Elan. I want desperately to play Quest or DnD or something so that I can be a bard. Despite all my OOTS reading today I have still have managed to do three loads of laundry, wash some dishes, pay bills, clean the master bathroom, practice tap, and get some stuff up in the attic. All and all, not too bad. Of course, my to do list was a lot longer, so I shouldn't be too pleased with myself. I still have to read chapter two and do the homework, do some grocery shopping, catch up on emails, and loads more housework.

Instead, I will babble a wee bit about Mom's birthday. She was hugged on behalf of all who emailed birthday wishes. :) I'm so excited about how much Mom loved her birthday present. I'm slowly getting her the entire set of Midsommer Murders. Well, I also got her some old Ms Marple movies. She was quite surprised. :) My dad is a big fan of the Midsommer Murders, as well. Normally I get him books, but his face lit up as much as mom's when she opened her presents, so I'm thinking I might switch to the shows for him, too. That way, it's kind of like getting presents for *both* of them all at once. Anyway, we haven't watched the Marples, but we have watched a bunch of the Midsommers, and with each episode I'm more impressed with the series. Monkeys likes it, too, so that's really nice. All four of us can watch them together. Oh, and we also got to call my grandmother, who has the same birthday as Mom. Gram turned 90, so she was getting LOADS of phone calls that night. She said she was stunned by how many bouquets and cards and calls she was getting. Really, she should have been stunned by our off-key singing. It was awful. OH - but later Monkeys and I played uke/mando for Mom. Thankfully we were on key for that.

There's a commercial on tv for the movie Confessions of a Shop-a-holic. I don't know what they movie will be like, but the book is actually quite funny. I laughed out loud (and quite loudly) on multiple occasions. I believe I even forced someone to listen to me read a few portions of the book that particularly amused and forced at least two other people to borrow the first book. There are maybe four books in the series? I don't know. I have read three, so I know there are at least three. The Manhattan one was hysterical, too, but I don't remember the third. Anyway, didn't mean to write about that - I was intending to get back to work, but the commercial distracted me. (Confession of a LJ-a-holic)

Fin.

Comic book store employee number one.
Monkeys says the other guy (comic book store employee number two) may be the other dude from robot chicken.

Now I'm sad I got rid of my Hiro icon.

I just ate an ENTIRE BAG of popcorn with Reces Pieces. I'm feeling a bit sickly.

I don't normally vote for people on the competition shows, but even if I did normally vote I could not choose from among the final 6 contestants on So You Think You Can Dance. Every routine has been remarkable tonight. I caught a rerun of last week's results show and based on that I thought I knew who I wanted in the finale, but WOW tonight's episode is phenomenal. I'm sorry I missed most of the season due to class. If they were doing this all season then I missed out on a lot. As much as I love Twitch as a person and a dancer, I think I like Mark's quirky moves in his solo and the jazz dance won me over. Joshua's sheer brilliance as a matador and the catches he did in the first dance should put him through. I think he could win. But Twitch *is* really great. His facial expressions and moves are fantastic. Grrrrr. I LOVE the tuxedos and tube socks for the hip hop conductor dance. And what a cool version of Control. As for the girls, I am having an even harder time. I guess I'd pick Courtney because her solo is really cool and that jazz routine was out of this world. Katee as the matador's cape in the pasadoble was WOWOWOWOW and her dress even more so and the song even more than that. But Chelsea is amazing and her solo was cool with her flouncy dress. Argh.

I hope this season goes up for sale since any clip on YouTube is immediately removed.

Yay! Now, let's see if Jedi Joe shows up again and makes me miss the second half. (Said with love and a smile, I swear ;)

As much as mankind makes me mad sometimes with the jealousy and selfishness and greed and stupidity that exists, when you see shows like this I'm put right back in awe of what we can accomplish and how much we have to be proud of. (And how you can fly a space ship put together with duct tape.)

Are you watching what I'm watching?

Thoughts?

I've seen two dancers who made me cry so far. Oddly enough, both seemed Modern Dance to me and that's my least favorite style (just because I don't fully understand it). If this show has done nothing else for me, I've grown in appreciation of Modern style.

How sweet was it when the one girl's aunt came down to give Nigel a kiss??

And the twins were *really* cool, too. I'm excited to see what they will do on the show.

The one guy with no spine, I was sad he didn't get through just because i'd never seen anyone do that before and he was so flexible it seemed like he had potential. But he totally blew the choreography that I could tell.

OH and I loved the girl in the blue tights who said she sucked at dancing and they said they loved her. She was adorable.

I love the judges on this show more than any other competition show. :)

Okay, back to watching. It's SWING time - YAY!!

Do you watch Dexter??? Because they just did a scene where he and another cop were examining blood spatter on the wall at a murder scene AND discussing what they saw in the images. Dexter pointed out a lobster and his coworker asked what was with him always seeing crustaceans.

Oh, and that lobster - IT WAS THERE. You could totally see the claws.

Sorry about my sudden disappearance last night )

AND I made some BNL icons the other day - saw a picture of Ed looking in a mirror and it made me feel all Jabberwockalicious...
