It ends well.
I was making an attempt to clean off the porch after the girls left and I grabbed a dead plant that was hanging out there. It was once a flowering begonia but I am Death of Plants. I had it halfway to the garbage can when I looked down at it and saw a nest with some eggs and two hatched baby birds begging me for food. I couldn't hear them but their heads were moving up and down and their beaks kept opening and closing; I thought I was imagining them at first and I just stood there hook in hand staring down at them. They were so ugly they were beautiful. After I'd recovered from the surprise (and believed what I was seeing) I spun around to head back to the porch, leaving them beside the door as I ran in to get John's advice. I was so afraid my disturbing them would have chased away the momma bird and doomed the babies. He hung it back up; he was a little concerned about not knowing which way to hang it in case the baby bird's parents would reject it being different but we did a "best guess" using the direction the dying leaves were facing as a guide. We went back inside hoping for the best. An hour later he saw a bird feeding them - so hooray!
I really really want to go out there and take a picture or some video of them but I don't want to disturb them any more than I already have.
