Points of Light

The Ronald McDonald House got my volunteer paperwork today, so I'm official! One of my goals this year (that I forgot to put in my 101 - ooops!) was to be better about "giving back." I've been wanting to do some kind of volunteering for ages now, but never actually *did* anything.

I'm not sure quite what I'll be doing, but I'll be a representative in my area since the actual house is in a bigger city about an hour away. So I won't be manning the actual house (like answering phones or whatnot). There's a meeting on the 15th where I'll learn more about it. They were really nice about saying I could just do whatever my schedule allowed, so it sounds like it will be flexible - which I need as work/school is either feast or famine.

I did pitch our college doing their Kaps for Kids fundraiser - so that's something I'll be doing. Kaps for Kids is a neat idea - people order tshirts and/or hats and agree to wear them on April 27th. So the House raises money by selling the shirts and raises awareness/visibility with all the shirts. I'm nervous. If it's small than it'll be really easy, but if lots and lots of people want to participate (the college has 650 employees, while I doubt all 650 would buy a shirt even a couple hundred would spook me) then it might be a little scary tracking all the orders/sizes/money, making the trips over to the house to drop off the orders/money & picking up the shirts, and dispersing the shirts back at the campus. So if anyone has any experience with this kind of thing - give me advice!!

I guess I need a Ronald McDonald icon.

I have a meeting with them on the Tuesday

Unfortunately, it's the Tuesday of Lenton Mission Week (so I'll get to church Monday - but miss Tuesday & Wednesday). Last month the meeting was the night Jay & Kady came to town, so I had to miss that one. Seems like it's a trend. :D

Thanks! I have my first orientation meeting a week from Tuesday (conflicting with mission week at church, darn it, but the last one conflicted with company visiting from Tallahassee, so I think it's a trend) - so I'll learn more about what I'll be doing. Yay!

Meanwhile so far the fundraiser I'm running for them at work has raised nearly $300 !! And that's only after two days of sending out the email asking if anyone wanted to participate. Woot!!
