Honeymoon - delayed about 10 years.

Last Thursday was our 10th wedding anniversary! We wanted to do something special.

The 10th anniversary date happened to fall during the college's Spring Break closure, so I had the whole week off - which actually mimics the events of 10 years ago. In 2000, Spring Break also fell during our wedding, so I only had to take two days off for the wedding and the moving into/setting up our house. At the time we opted to skip the honeymoon and use the time for house sorting. Anyway, it seemed like the 2010 timing was a sign that we ought to do something special. We wanted to go to Tucson because Monkeys was there last year for work and fell in love with the city, but we didn't have the money for plane tickets/car rental and didn't think we had the time to drive there and back. So we figured we'd just drive somewhere closer and have a private get-away. My parents gave us $300 as an anniversary gift and Monkey's dad's delayed Christmas present arrived around the same time - $75 worth of gas cards. Again - a sign, right? Suddenly our hotel and gas money was pretty much taken care of, giving use more leeway for traveling. For years we had both been talking about how much we'd love to go to San Antonio. My desire came from having a penpal there when I was a teenager, and her letters made the city seem amazing and filled with wonders and activities. Monkey's actually visited the city once as a part of basic training, but he didn't get to do much while there, of course, and wanted to return.

We talked about it off and on, but the week before Spring Break we actually got serious and started looking up San Antonio online, worked out potential places we wanted to visit, printed out loads of coupons for attractions (museums, gardens, zoo, etc.), discussed ideas for hotels (didn't actually book any, because I didn't want to commit ourselves if it turned out we didn't go), looked up the Man Vs Food episode at San Antonio, and set up the cat/fish/turtle watching plus worked out borrowing Toaster's Garmon GPS thingy. Then on Saturday, March 27th, we struck out for Texas!! I will bore everyone to DEATH with details in the next few posts - once I get my pictures off the camera. For now, suffice it to say we are home safe and sound and had an amazing time.

San Antonio
I know this is a bit late to be mentioning this, but I spent 5 years in San Antonio as a youngster (I left in my freshman year of HS). Hope you guys had a great time!
