Pottery Pictures!

Okay, way too many pottery pictures but darn it I'm proud of me. I am at least putting them behind a cut. Some of these will be Christmas presents for some people so pretend to be surprised. :)

The Butterfly The Butterfly
Butterfly – Yes, Sarah, this one’s for you. I love the coloring on the butterfly but wish the background had been darker. It was supposed to be a tiny plate for tea cookies.
Frog & Lilly Pad Frog & Lilly Pad
Frog & Lilly Pad – I am happy with this one. Don’t know who it’s for or what to do with it but I like it. And that’s appropriate because I didn’t know what it was until after I’d made the bottom. I think I was trying to make a bowl but didn’t like it so I carved something into it hoping a design would distract from poor construction. I still didn’t like it until I realized it looked a bit like a lily pad so I carved some more design into it and conned John into sculpting a frog. Now I’m quite pleased.
Raku: Incense Burner (Celtic Pickle) Raku: Incense Burner (Celtic Pickle)
Raku Incense Burner - it was supposed to be two colors one for the indented Celtic knotted area and one for the rest but Raku never does what it’s supposed to do. This was a whoops! piece to start with anyway. I had flattened a piece of clay to make a cookie tray but I forgot about it and found it mostly dried. I was too embarrassed to put it back in the slip bucket (wasteful of me!) so I decided to practice carving Celtic knot work into it and discovered it looked really cool. It even got praise from my instructor as well as several classmates! Or at least, the knot work did. The piece looked like a pickle. (Guess who’s getting this one!) So I’ve been calling it Celtic Pickle but we poked a hole in it for incense. Unfortunately, it dried a bit wobbly but it still looks cool.
White Rabbit White Rabbit
White Rabbit – John actually liked this one a lot but I thought it should have more color. Maybe I’ll try glazing it again and see what happens! It was supposed to be a tiny plate for tea cookies.
Various Pieces Various Pieces
Apparently I'm really proud. From this angle you can see some of the cooler coloring in the incense burner and the texture in my cup. My cup is that blue and white thing beside the butterfly. My Cup – I like how the glaze turned out on this one, though the cup itself is very lumpy. It was my first attempt at a pinch pot. It might become a desk item to hold paperclips or something, but it is the high-fire glaze and therefore is safe for food so who knows.
Various Pieces Various Pieces
I love Raku so much!!! Obsessed with my incense burner.
The High Glaze Pieces (Sans Raku) The High Glaze Pieces (Sans Raku)
These are the recent pieces that are high fire glaze. On the left is Cracked Triangle – We had to do a coil pot and I like triangles so this was my first attempt. It cracked. He said to use it to experiment with glaze so I did some wax lines on the outside and painted each coil a different color. You can’t use it for dip (its original purpose) because of the crack but it could hold something. What’s that story about the two water pots and the cracked pot thought he was the lesser until he learned the water that dripped between the house and the well watered the flowers along the path and caused them to grow strong and beautiful? That’s my pot. Maybe it can be a tiny planter.
The Whole Lot The Whole Lot
High Fire and Raku (all but my moon, it's in my desk at work as I type this). This is probably the best picture of the Raku Triangle When my original dip bowl triangular coil pot cracked in the bisque fire I attempted to remake it and somehow it tripled in size and no longer seemed appropriate for dip. John wanted to Raku his candle holder but there weren’t enough people with Raku pieces to justify the kiln so to guarantee a Raku firing next class I make it into a Raku piece, forgetting it would mean it was no longer food friendly and reinforcing the too big for dip thoughts. But it’s really shiny! Shiny is cool!
Down Shot Down Shot
Last one for tonight! I was trying to get an inside shot of the Raku triangle. Shiny!
